MARC'S ROCK SHRINE - EARLY JULY 2010
  Photographers Kevin & Fee Warner

This was a visit not just to tidy, clean and polish, but also to do some essential work which you will find detailed below. This is just the first part of a programme of work which we will be continuing throughout 2010 and quite possibly into 2011 as well. To some extend the work will depend on the weather, feedback from the local residents as well as TAG having the cash available to do the work.

Our main work to do at this visit is to remove all the wooden slats which go round the metal calliper, clean out and inspect the otten section inside the tree and then replace the wooden slats and recoat them with wood treatment. We thought we would use Black wood treatment this time so that the difference can be seen.

We also wanted to over paint the grafitti on the crash barrier upright at by the Tree. It's depressing after all this time of asking people not to pin the tree, to still find some people do. We have photographed the pins so you can see quite clearly the damage they do and the poison they introduce into the tree.

painted and new silk
flowers in place.

With our next visit the notice
board will be repainted with

Showing the damage people
do with pins. Notice the black
iron oxide which will poison
the tree. Also notice new
engraving into the bark.
SHAME ON YOU!

have been removed.
work-03
Inside the tree. I think
you can see why we
have to be so careful
looking after this tree
& why people who climb
it are risking their own
lives, other road users
& the tree itself.
work-04
The pressure from the
weight of the tree
above has caused the
bark to try to grow
over the calliper.
work-05
TAKING THE STRAIN
Showing how the calliper
has bowed due to the
weight of the tree
above the rotten section.
work-06
The wood coated with Black
wood treatment (for a change)
& new silk flowers. The old
messages were moved to the
noticeboard as it was getting
dark by the time we finished so
messages could
not be added
this time.
work-07
A bag of rubbish to take
home. Not bad really
since our last visit a
couple of weeks earlier.
work-08
The new notice we have been
advised to put up to prevent
damage to the site. Based on
the local council by laws.
