Cavern Club T-Rex Convention Review
Intro The T-Rex Convention at The Cavern was organised by Rockoff. TAG were invited to attend as Guests. I offered to do a Quiz, The Raffle, Presentation and to bring some of our collection to display. The amount we could bring was limited by our 2-seater 'Smart Car'.
On the day there was far less 'input' from Rockoff than we'd expected, so we'd especially like to thank Rolan for spending such a lot of time with everyone at the Convention - I know it was hugely appreciated. Not everyone recognised Rolan at first because his hair was so short!
Rolan decided not to go ahead with the Q&Q Session Rockoff had scheduled and played some acoustic numbers instead, but as Rolan was around so much, there was plenty of time for personal 'one-to-one' Questions & Answers :-)
The Display Below: TAG's Corner Display, with the Original Wooden Sculpture from which the Bronze Bust was cast which was unveiled by Rolan in 2002 at 'The Tree Site'.

Also on display (to the left of the bust) was a very rare 'Management Only' version of the 'T-Rextasy Postcard' hand signed by Marc :-)
Plus the TAG 25th Anniversary T-Shirt signed by those at the Unveiling/Reception including Rolan, Harry Feld, Sculptor Jean Robillard, Paul Fenton, Rob Benson & last but not least the Late Mickey Finn.
The photograph on our T-Shirt was one of Keith Morris's Wonderful shots of Marc, used with his full permission. Keith's only 'charge' was that we gave him a T-Shirt which we were more than happy to do. RIP Keith!
Other exhibits included original Magazine Articles, 'Pin-Ups' & Framed Posters, the Original BBC Reel of Film which was broadcast behind Marc on 'Top Of The Pops'. Tanx to Adam for the donation of this tape. It was wonderful to be able to show it people :-)
Also, on display was an original A4 Poster for my 'T-Rex Disco' held at Malvern Winter Gardens in 1978 - Ten Years after Tyrannosaurus Rex played at the very same venue :-)
On the far left of the display photos you can see an enlargement of Marc's Parents - Sid & Phyllis Feld mounted within a brushed bronze effect frame and below a larger version. |
The photograph was taken on my first visit to Marc's parents home in Putney in June 1978. It was the only shot I took, as it felt quite intrusive in a way, because Sid & Phyllis considered themselves just 'normal' people and they seemed uncomfortable being photographed by fans!
It was the last negative on the roll, so that the processing 'tag' can be seen on the far right of the photo. It's lucky it did 'come out' as I probably would never have plucked up the courage to ask to 'invade their privacy' to take another!
During the evening Kev had spotted Rolan spending quite a while looking at the photograph of his Grand Parents.
Rolan's Gift
What Rolan didn't know, was that I'd had this enlargement printed and framed especially to give to him at the Convention. I even wrapped it in Purple Tissue. But then I thought everyone might like a chance to see it before it was presented to Rolan, so I unwrapped it and put it on the table!
The image (right) shows Rolan as he's just received the framed enlargement. Of course I could have gone for the 'Cheesy Grin Photo' with Rolan & the Photo, but that wasn't the idea. The idea was to give Rolan a gift as a 'Thank You' for *Everything*.

This was made all the more special (for me) when Rolan told me that this was the first and only photo of his Grand Parents he had! I'd just expected it to be 'another one'!
That really made my day! :-) - Well that and the neck & shoulder massage Rolan gave me when he arrived and said "You look stressed!" All I'll say is that Rolan has strong hands and the massage really did hit the spot!
More to follow
Reviews of the bands will follow. I look forward to putting up some Members reviews soon.
