Dear Mrs. Warner, Thank you for your letter and enclosure. I am delighted that somebody is taking responsibility for the condition of the memorial site, as maintenance was one of the issues that I raised when the Performing Rights Society first put forward their proposal for the memorial. I understand the problem, having filled many a black bin bag with cans, plastic and long dead flowers. The fact that you are taking a professional interest in the site is excellent news. I am all for healing the scar made by people visiting the site. I would like to think of the memorial as being a place of private communion, rather than a public display; a place in keeping with the naturalness of the lane, which as its name implies as a history going back much longer than this very sad tragedy. Yours Sincerely, Michael (Resident) |
