I`m English, and I live in Hollywood CA. and as you may guess us Bolan fans ( certainly on the West coast anyway) are starved as to most things Re: T.Rex / Bolan. Anyway as we know Sept 30th would have been Marcs 62nd B/Day. I was just going though Facebook around the 27th and saw this link which at the time of posting was still up and running Twentieth Century Boy.
I went to the event hoping as much as anything that Rolan would be there, and sure enuf he was. Much to my delight so was Gloria. Once I had got up the nerve to talk to both of them, I found it was like talking to people I had known all my life. They were so approach able and it was never a problem for them to stop and chat to me about Marc and T.Rex, and life in general. For me it was that was amazing.
In all truth the venue was`nt much to shout about, and there was`nt really too much on show. I guess about 10 - 12 large Black and White photos of Marc on stage when on tour in Long Beach CA around Nov. 1973 dressed in his long tailed coat, as seen on the back of the Tanx album, and 6 - 7 in the studio. Also as you will see by the photos 5 - 6 art work paintings (?) by Jed Dmochowski. These were all for sale, with money from the sales going toward `The Marc Bolan School of Music and Film` being set by Gloria in Sierra Leone. Sad to say at a cost of between $900 - $1250 a time I could`nt afford to buy any of these. There was a disco at the event, not to much T.Rex played, which was strange really. However they did play `Desdemona` `Find a Little Wood` and ( for me anyway) sounded like a new mix of `Solid Baby`.
Highlight of the night for me was when Rolan got up and did a number. Not a song I`d ever heard of and not one of his Dads. After he`d sang that I talked to him, and asked if I could sing `Lifes a Gas` with him. Once he`d got him self up off the floor laughing he told me his guitar was`nt tuned for that song, but he could do `Cosmic Dancer` later. Sad to say that during another number later ( again not a song written by his Dad ) there was a big tech problem and he had to stop. As far as I know he did`nt play again that night.
At one stage Gloria began telling me of a dream she had a few days before of Marc coming to her, he looked much like he did when he was 29, but was 62. ( You know what dreams are like lol )
Sorry to say that due to someone else asking her something she never got to finish the story, and other than saying good bye, I did`nt get to talk to her again.
As you will see by some of the photos this was a very emotional night for me and one I will cherish.
That my friends for me was the end of a wonderful night.
By the time I was leaving and having said my goodbyes and thanks to Rolan and Gloria I think there were around 200 people there, a good turn out I think for such a small venue.
I don`t recall the name of the person in the pink shirt. I can tell you he is Gloria`s Grandson. Also the Asian guy in the blue T.Shirt is Jed Dmochowski, and the lady in the glasses with him best as I remember is his sister.
On a personal note thank you for allowing me to share these with you all at TAG, and as many T.Rex / Marc Bolan fans as is possible, and I hope you like the info and the photos.

No, THANK YOU MIKE - for the great report and photos - I think we can all really feel the event :-)
