MEMORIAL PLAQUES FOR MARC BOLAN'S ROCK SHRINE

HISTORY OF THE PLAQUES PROJECT

Following the Unveiling by Rolan Bolan of the Bronze of Marc installed by TAG for the 25^th Anniversary of his passing in 2002, in January TAG announced our intention to place plaques on the steps we built in 2000 to honour other members of T-Rex (& Tyrannosaurus Rex for the 'pedants') who have passed over. Therefore TAG planned to install four Memorial Plaques for: Steve Peregrin Took, Steve Currie, Mickey Finn & Dino Dines.

A PLAQUE FOR JUNE MAKES FIVE

TAG was contacted by a number of people suggesting that we should include a Memorial Plaque for June. Coinsidentally, Fee was contacted by June's Daughter Ilona complimenting her on how her Meeting June page summed June up so well. This gave TAG the opportunity to ask Ilona what she thought of a plaque for her Mum. Ilona replied "Your thought of a plaque I think would be fantastic. I strongly believe that Marc wouldn't have been Marc without her & she does deserve recognition."

Therefore Five Plaques will be installed on the steps.

On the Top Step will be equally sized Memorial plaques for Steve Took, Mickey Finn, Steve Currie, & June.
On the Second Step Dino's Memorial plaque will be on the 'later band members second step'. The plaques on the second step will by necessity smaller than those on the top step because of course there are more people who will be eligible for inclusion there (in time).

FAMILY APPROVAL :-)

We wrote to Marc's older brother Harry about the plaques & were delighted when Marc's older brother Harry phoned. It was lovely to speak to Harry again after seeing him & his wife Sandy at the Born to Boogie DVD VIP Screening & Party. In relation to the plaques, Harry said that he certainly had no objection to TAG putting Memorial Plaques on the Steps for the four members of T-Rex who have passed over or for June. For TAG, this means a lot because we do take the family's wishes seriously.
Harry thanked us for caring for the site & for doing what we do & again said how much he liked the Bronze Bust of his brother at the site. We know that at the Unveiling Reception Jean the sculptor was so pleased to hear Harry say what a good likeness the Bronze was to him personally.
We have also contacted Rolan & via him Gloria who have raised no objections. :-)

THE SIZE OF THE PLAQUES

It's been quite a mathamatical nightmare working out how big to make ach plaque so that they can be spaced out nicely & look balanced.

The Sizes of the Memorial Plaques will be as follows:-

TOP STEP:- 9" Wide x 3" High (225mm Wide x 75mm High).

SECOND STEP:- 6" Wide x 2" High (150mm Wide x 50mm High).

Therefore the ratio of width to height is the same (3:1) for the plaques on the Top & Second Steps.

Above: Small versions of the final 600 dpi to scale 'technical drawings' of each step produced as part of the calculations needed to ensure the plaques were made in sizes which looked balanced & therefore asthetically suitable for the site.

On the second step further Memorial Plaques will be installed (though hopefully not for a long time!) as appropriate, running left to right across the top line (i.e. the next one will be placed to the right of Dino's) before commencing the second line. Who qualifies and who does not will be decided by common sense as well as feedback at the appropriate times.
