	MARC'S SHRINE 21ST DECEMBER, 2012 - VIDEOS Fee visited Marc's Shrine and met up with Maria on the Winter Solstice of 21st December, 2012 to clean and tidy and also to remove the build up of soggy wet leaves from the steps which were spread over the soil to act as a 'mulch' and then to re-fill the steps and viewing platform with new Bark Chippings. There are two videos which have been uploaded into the 2012 Marc's Shrine Player As the photos were mostly taken after the work was done it was pretty dark and the flash use means that the photos do need 'work' to improve them. Therefore the photo gallery is to follow very soon.

	MEMBERS JANUARY SALE COMING IN - WELL IN JANUARY! We have a number of T-Shirts, Mugs, Shoulder bags and other bits 'n bobs in stock. These will be listed in our January 2013 update with Special Discounted Prices for Members. They will then be listed on the Free Site at the end of February, at higher prices but Members will get the chance to snap up ssome bargains and we will be offering combined P&P if you want to treat yourself. But don't worry, it will be into the New Year before we list these things to let your wallets recover a little!

	MARC'S ROSE FUND Finally Fee has had time to update the MARC'S ROSE FUND page, although as this update goes up we have still not recovered from the September hacking which has caused us so many problems. We would like to thank those people who have donated since the last update and a Special Tanx to Michael Trottier for buying a full set of Four Plaques although Lisa England has outdone you Michael by buying a total of Five Plaques. Tanx also to Timothy Arkwright for his donation of £ 79.43, to Crystel Olma from Germany for sending us £50.00 and last, but by no means least, Irene LaCharite in Canada for her donation of £ 30.00. We need £70.00 for the Rose Fund, although we still need to replace the £500.00 had to loan the Rose Fund to ensure the registration process could begin. It is important that we raise that money back for the essential work which will need to be done in 2013.

	WORK NEEDED IN 2013 Due to the horrible summer (or lack of it) and the seriously above average amount of rail the soil at the site was too heavy to work with. This meant we were unable to replace the following two things. 1) The Log Roll to the right of the PRS Memorial which was knocked over at the same time that 2) The Ivy and Honeysuckle be-decked upright trunk was knocked over. We intend to replace both of these this year and indeed it appears that we will have to 3) replace all the log roll behind the PRS Memorial too as the weight of soil is pushing it forward. This is partly due to people sitting on it when it was not intended for that purpose. 4) As well as this we need to replace some more of the railways sleepers which make up the steps, standing area around the tree and boundary for the PRS Memorial. It will be Thirteen Yeras in January since these were put there, so they have done quite well. It was at the request of the residents that we used oak railways sleepers becuase they wanted something which looked more inkeeping with the site than the concerete steps further along Gipsy Lane which do look very unnatural although they are maintenance-free! 5) As usual there will be the re-painting of the steps, log roll etc again before September 2013 as this is an annual event. 6) We will be planting further bulbs etc although this depends on the weather. There are other things which may need doing, but that depends on discussions with the residents so they will not be disclosed until agreement is reached. For all these reasons donations are always welcomed, so we can keep the site a fitting tribute for Marc.

	HACKNEY EXHIBITION FEATURES MARC: Hackney tells its Mod history - The Genesis of Marc Bolan A new exhibition exploring the Stamford Hill Mod movement in the 1960s is on now at Hackney Museum. Stamford Hill Mods - The Genesis of Marc Bolan will tell the story of early modernist culture, fashion and music in the area in the 1960s. 50 years ago international war photographer Don McCullin took pictures of 15 year old Mark Feld and friends in Stamford Hill for Town Magazine. Three years later Feld changed his name to Marc Bolan and went on to become a pop icon of T-Rex fame. Miki Simmonds who grew up in Stamford Hill and was one of the Mods pictured with Mark Bolan said: "It's the year 1960 and I'd just turned 18. We were full of energy, youth was eternal and life was yet to be, we thought we were going to live forever. We were Mods. Ace Faces. We were the Stamford Hill boys - this was our meeting place, our turf." Visitors to the exhibition will find photographs, early 45 vinyl records, Mod magazines and a copy of the original Town Magazine. They'll also be memories of handmade suits and bum freezer jackets as well as the old Mod hang-outs, such as the ten pin bowling alley and the amusement arcade in Stamford Hill. Many of the stories have come from local people who have helped to shape the exhibition from real-life accounts. Special additions to the display will include an original 1962 Bilgorri suit and a 1962 two tone Vespa GS160 scooter personalised by Eddie Grimstead, the scooter dealer to all the mods in East London. Hackney Council Cabinet Member for Health, Social Care and Culture, Cllr Jonathan McShane said: "Hackney's colourful Mod past has been brought to life by true tales from local people who grew up here in that time or who were part of the scene. It's this type of engagement with communities in the borough which helps to bring the honest, informed and interactive exhibitions we see in Hackney Museum today." 	THE MARC BOLAN ROSE You'll have seen from our last update that the rose has been selected and is currently being registered worldwide so that Marc joins a very select group of people who have their own rose. It all started in 2008 when one of our members told us that Freddie Mercury had his own rose and so we set up the project to raise funds for a MARC BOLAN rose. Originally, we predicted that the cost would be £2,000 because that was how much the Freddie Mercury Rose cost! What we didn't realise is that Freddie's Rose cost £2,000 in 1993!! As you can imagine, inflation means that NINETEEN YEARS LATER the BEST QUALITY UNIQUE ROSE can no longer be grown for £2,000! But not to worry Bolanites. As with the Steps, Saving the Bolan Tree, rescuting the Bronze Bust Project, we can't let Marc down in this, his 35th Anniversary and 65th Birthday! As you can see we choose a rose in Flamboyant Cerise Pink with a Yellow Eye when Fully Open. We decided to select a rose which was as easy to care for as possible and is also as versatile as possible.We can honestly say that the MARC BOLAN rose fits all these criteria. It is a Free-Flowering Multi-Flora rose, which can be pruned to keep it as a rose bush, or can be used as a climber up a wall or trellis. The colour not only reflects one of most popular colours for Marc's feather boas, including the one he gifted to Cilla Black when he appeared on her show in January 1973, but was also influenced by one of his most memorable items of clothing from the Marc Shows filmed in the second half of 1977 - The Cerise Pink Shirt with the letters M A R C in contrasting Appliqu�. As we have used TAG Funds to enable to the Rose Project to be completed, these Funds do need to be replaced, but we are sure fans will rally round and buy our Rexmas Cards, Wall and Desk Calendars, New 2012 60 page Guide Book, as well as our T-Shirts, Greetings Cards, Fridge Magnets etc. You can find the T-Shirts in TAG's eBay Shop and more things will be listed at the end of August/early September, 2012. 		THE ROSE IS A REALITY! This is the quickest of updates simply to let you know that we have selected the MARC BOLAN rose. As you can see we chose a rose in Flamboyant Cerise Pink with a Yellow Eye when Fully Open. We decided to select a rose which was as easy to care for as possible and is also as versatile as possible. We can honestly say that the MARC BOLAN rose fits all these criteria. It is a Free-Flowering Multi-Flora, which can be pruned to keep it as a rose bush or can be used as a climber up a wall or trellis. We haven't raised quite enough money so please do buy a plaque or make a donation. The next issue of our pdf newsletter will be with you on the 7th August, assuming Fee has been able to get back down to earth. The trip to Scotland to choose the rose was a physically and emotional journey, especially Fee and Ellie had to get up at 4:00am to get ready to head off to Gatwick to be in Scotland for 9:00 am!! 	35th ANNIVERSARY GIG - SHEPHERD'S BUSH EMPIRE - 15th SEPTEMBER, 2012 Marc Bolan 35th Anniversary Concert in aid of the PRS for Music Members Benevolent Fund We were contacted by John Logan of the PRS who asked us to give this Fund Raising Concert a plug on our site, which we're happy to do becuase of course the PRS funded the memorial installed at Marc's Shrine in 1997. Fee was able to visit Marc's Shrine again on last Saturday 14th April. The site was looking lovely in the warm Spring Sunshine with many of the bulbs we planted in December 2011 in bloom, but with more yet to flower. Many tanx to Maria for coming to help, clean, tidy and polish.

PAUL ROLAND'S NEW BOOK - THE QUIZ WINNERS
The quiz certainly proved quite tricky, especially with some of the answers having two or three parts so that there were a possible 15 points available from the Ten Questions. Some people didn't notice and dropped a point by not answering both parts, while some found Paul's crafty wording caught them out. The 'historical figure' Marc was influenced by when young was not Elvis Presley, as be might be 'historical' now, but he wasn't when Marc was young! The Answers have now been added to the The Questions Page, so you can see what answers you didn't get right, even if you thought you did :-) You can also read the Review of Paul's Book written by our very own Fiona Jack (the Rebelious Scot) on the same page.

Commiserations to the unlucky few who got the questions right and whose name went into the 'hat' but didn't get picked. Sorry to those who missed getting into the hat due to not getting all 15 points either by missing some of the two-part answers or by sending in answers with spelling mistakes. We think Fiona was helped a little because she already owned the book! We know we certainly were - proving that there are extra things to know all the time :-) BUT we tried googling to see if you needed to own the book to get all 15 points and of course the answer is that you didn't!

MARC'S ROCK SHRINE : VIDEOS : 8th MARCH 2012 & 14th APRIL 2012
The Two Videos in the 2012 Marc's Rock Shrine Video Player show Marc's Rock Shrine on the 8th March 2012 and the 14th April, 2012. Both show different Bulbs in Bloom. In March the early flowering Irises were in flower and the Hyacinths were in bud, but not quite in bloom. Five weeks later you can see that the Hyacinths have 'gone over' and the Irises have been replaced by Crocuses, Blue Grape Hyacinths, and to the left of the Bronze and Tree there are Bluebells, and assorted Daffodils too. Our next visit will no doubt see a change once more. Simply use the drop down folder to see the list of Videos in the player.

THE MARC BOLAN ROSE FUND - UPDATES
We're delighted to ay another of our members has bought a wall plaque so we now need to raise £563.55, to get to target, which we can do if Bolan Fans show their support :-) We hope to have some exciting news to tell everyone about by next month.

Don't think afterwards "Oh I wish I'd bought one!" when the Limited Edition is sold out as there will ne no more cast - EVER.

BUY A PLAQUE & GET PREFERENCIAL RIGHT TO BUY A MARC BOLAN ROSE BUSH
The number of Marc Bolan Rose Bushes available in the first season (JUNE 2013) will be very limited. Not by us, but by the method of developing a New Rose Variety. The number of rose bushes for Sale in 2013 is directly related to the number of originals there are in 2012 (i.e. now). In July we will confirm with the Rose Grower which of the rose bushes 'short listed' in 2011 will become THE MARC BOLAN ROSE. In August this year the Rose Grower will 'bud on' using buds from this Original and Unique the Rose Bush to create the Marc Bolan Rose Bushes which will be on sale next year. You can see that one rose bush will only have a finite number of suitable 'buds' and a number of 'buds' are used to create each new Rose Bush. So to create even One Hundred Rose Bushes for 2013 will require at least Five Hundred suitable buds. I think that says a lot! So if you want a Rose Bush in 2013 make sure you buy a wall plaque.

BBC TV : THE 1970'S SERIES. PART ONE - 'GET IT ON'
BBC NEWS MAGAZINE "Why does the 1970s get painted as such a bad decade?"
With the broadcast last Monday (16th April) evening (repeated last Tuesday 17th April) of the first of a new series looking at the 1970's this news article discusses the 1970's/ The first episode was entitled "GET IT ON" and covered 1970 - 1972. ULTIMATE CLASSIC ROCK "NO. 81: T.REX, 'BANG A GONG (GET IT ON)' � TOP 100 CLASSIC ROCK SONGS"
This was written three weeks ago :-) and Jolly Good it is Too!
"T. Rex has probably the only song on our Top 100 Classic Rock Songs list with two different titles. 'Get It On' was the single's original U.K. title and Marc Bolan and his group took the track, originating from the album 'Electric Warrior,' to No. 1 in 1971. Later, when the single was released in the USA (Jan. 1972) it was re-titled 'Bang A Gong (Get It On)' to distinguish it from another song with the same name by a band called Chase. The single went to No. 10 on the Billboard chart and turned out to be T.Rex's shining moment and their biggest selling hit. The hypnotic groove of this Tony Visconti produced song begs you to play it repeatedly. The boogie-like piano, the Flo and Eddie (The Turtles) back-up vocals and Bolan's sassy guitar give way to the simple but suggestive lyrics that radiate like the "hub-cap-diamond-star-halo" that the author sings about. Bolan found rhythm in his language and will long be remembered as a poet turned superstar. 40 years later 'Bang A Gong (Get It On)' still plays a crucial part in pop culture, most recently heard in the trailer for the upcoming 'Dark Shadows' film. Rewind through the decades and you'll recall that the Power Station had a smash hit with it, Blondie have covered and recorded it live and last but not least, Joan Jett told Sirius radio that this single was one of the songs she used to learned to play guitar." www.ultimateclassicrock.com.

As you can see from the image on the left we are now over three quarters of ther way to our target. Many Tanx to the donations received. Annoyingly Pay Pal takes its commission which is why the donations aren't round pounds.

	WELCOME TO THE LATEST FREE UPDATE We hope you enjoy the update. Do check out other parts of the site as you'll be amazed how much there is here! Especially in the MARC BOLAN INFORMATION CENTRE Fee's still over the moon that Marc's rose will be completed (assuming we sell the plaques) and we are both looking forward to visiting the MARC BOLAN ROSE at the Specialist Rose Grower this summer so we can take photos of the actual rose. It will be fabulous that not only with people be able to buy MARC BOLAN ROSE BUSHES, if they are requested enough at Florists it is possible that you can have MARC BOLAN CUT STEM ROSES for your bouquets and other floral displays, including those on Valentine's day!!! What a wonderful thought! But don't forget, we cannot go ahead with the registration of the name until we have raised the last of the money so if you haven't bought a Fund Raising Wall Plaque we hope you will. As you can see below, we have some new photos which show you them in more detail than before. So on that positive note ... on with this update.

	MARC'S ROSE FOR MARC'S 35th ANNIVERSARY/65th BIRTHDAY We sought Harry and Rolan's permission for this project as Marc's Older brother and son and Heir respectively. We were delighted to receive a lovely letter on sunnny yellow writing paper from Harry and Sandy Feld saying what a good idea it was. Harry also let us know that he had spoken to Rolan who was in agreement too. Fee says she can't wait to see the rose with her own eyes and take photos of it this summer. Originally, we predicted that the cost would be £2,000. This was based on the cost of the Freddie Mercury Rose Therefore we assumed Marc's Rose would cost the same. What we didn't realise is that Freddie's Rose cost £2,000 in 1993!! As you can imagine, inflation means that NINTEEN YEARS LATER the BEST QUALITY UNIQUE ROSE can no longer be grown for £2,000! THE ACTUAL COST IS £2,500 We have known this for some time, but haven't had time to update the web site total and images we used. But don't worry that this means it won't be ready in time! When we calculated the Retail Price for the Plaques we allowed for this. But, we need to sell all the plaques, otherwise the rose will be reserved for us, but not actually registered until we have paid the balance and we will miss our target deadline of Marc's 35th Anniversary / 65th Birthday. SO, WE HOPE YOU WILL BUY ONE OF OUR FUND RAISING WALL PLAQUES Limited to just 100 Worldwide all individually numbered. All those who buy a plaque will be notified before the roses go on general release, so they can be the first to own their very own own Marc Bolan Rose, and will also be offered a "MANY TANX" discount too!

	PHOTOS FROM MARC'S SHRINE: 23rd FEBRUARY & 8th MARCH, 2012 We were contacted by fan Maria who was upset to discover on a visit to Marc's Shrine that someone had ripped off a lot of the messages from the Tree and they were lying around the ground with muddy footprints all over. She spent around 90 minutes at the site tidying up, for which we are very grateful. For the second time in as many years one of the black slats from around the tree had been ripped off. VIEW MARIA'S 23rd FEB. 2012 GALLERY, along with three other photos of the shrine sent in recently, through taken in 2011. Don't worry. We visited on the 8th March to put things right! We also measured up for coach bolts as it seems that screwing the slats in place isn't enough to stop the person(s) determined to cause harm. We have a jolly good idea who it was and believe it to be the same name as was given to John Willans in relation to the Shrine Vandalism which has been going on since 2009. 	MARC'S SHRINE: Obsessive Compulsive Cycling Disorder: River Thames Bridges Cycle "OK What's that got to do with Marc?" You may be asking. The article is about a cyclist who as he says himself:- "I'd had this River Thames Bridges Cycle planned for quite a while before I eventually got the chance to undertake it. I was still Living in Dublin at the time, so had to wait for a holiday back to England before I could take the bike to London. As it turned out, it became just one part of a little tour I completed. On day one, a Thursday, I cycled from Brighton to London and stayed in Greenwich overnight with family. I then completed this bridges cycle on the Friday, which took me from Greenwich to Surbiton." ... "As I am fascinated with London and its history, I have included Wikipedia links (because they are the authority on all things historical and knowledgeable of course) to all the named places of interest, so you can click on any that take your fancy and read all about them at your leisure. I'm good like that :)" ... Another musical interlude, well more of a detour really, and a chance to visit a poignant place which I had wanted to see for years, as I knew there was a shrine there. The Indipendant UK Newspaper dated Tuesday 02 August 2011 which has the healine "Marc Bolan's legacy moves to African school for orphans " From the same date is the NME article reporting the same story and indeed quotes the Indipendant. "The family of the late T. Rex frontman, Marc Bolan, have opened a school for orphaned children in Makeni, Sierra Leone. His former partner, soul singer Gloria Jones � who survived the 1977 car crash which left Bolan dead � has founded the Marc Bolan School of Music and Film. The school hopes to educate 100 students who have been orphaned by the civil war in West Africa, or who have been rescued from blood diamond mines. With her husband Chris Mitchell she set up a HIV charity in the mid-1990s and now, with assistance from Jed Dmochowski � the frontman of a Marc Bolan tribute band � is raising money for the new school, which plans to "heal through music", reports The Independent. Dmochowski has been playing fundraising shows for the school, in order for them to buy musical instruments, as well as flying out to Makeni to perform for the students. He said: "The children are getting to know more of Marc's music and will be playing his songs. But Gloria really wants them to be inspired by Marc's energy and vision and to develop their natural talent."

Nice to see someone else in the 'Bolan Scene' spending their time creating web pages to share things with fellow Bolan fans, and people who aren't fans (yet) but want to find out more about the man who sings that song they just heard on the Radio / on TV / whatever. EARLY 'REX PHOTOS' OF MARC'S SHRINE

These VERY EARLY PHOTOS have been added to the site as an archive of how Marc's Tree looked in 1978, before the crash barrier was added, but after he chain link fence had been removed after Marc's fatal crash.
You can clearly see how the road is not as busy as it is nearly 35 years ago.

BOLAN SPOTTING - ANOTHER SHRINE MENTION
This one is in the blog for the Acorn Media Group. If the following piece doesn't ring any bells, Google 'Midsummer Murders' to find out!
"Unfortunately Midsomer County of Midsomer Murders fame is a fictional place. But there are lots of other locations in our programs that "take place" in real towns. Fresh Fields is a delightful comedy about a British couple's empty-nest adventures. It stars Anton Rodgers and Julia "Marple" McKenzie as William and Hester Fields. Life is never dull for this couple and it makes me laugh out loud to the embarrassment of my fellow co-workers. I just finished Set 2 and there was an episode about them driving around their town, Barnes, to avoid some houseguests, it made me wonder if Barnes existed and it does. Barnes is a small Thames-side village in London. Barnes is most well-known as the one of the best spots to watch the annual Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race. Barnes has a number of 18th and 19th century buildings and some of the oldest riverside housing is to be found on The Terrace, a road lined with Georgian Mansions. Gustav Holst and Ninette de Valois both lived in houses on this road. Sitting on the green and looking at the pond, it's hard to believe that Central London is a couple minutes away. Today Barnes is home to many high-profile broadcasters, politicians and actors. Barnes is also the unlikely setting for one of London's most famous music studios: The Olympic Sound Studios. Artists who have recorded tracks at Olympic Sound Studios include The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Oasis, the Kaiser Chiefs and The Arctic Monkeys. Barnes is also where the T-Rex singer Marc Bolan died in a car crash � the exact spot of the accident, on Queen's Ride, is marked by Bolan's Rock Shrine, where fans young and old come to pay their respects."

MARC'S SHRINE ON QYPE
Qype is one of those web sites where visitors can look up the sorts of things available ready for their trip to London, or indeed the UK.

With the Olympics mainly being held in London this Summer as well as the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, it is likely that there will be a lot more people coming to London in 2012. And that's without it being Marc's 35th Anniversary as well as his 65th Birthday in September. Therefore it seemed like a great idea to make sure the Qype listing was all up to date and correct.
