Well the anniversary of Marc's death is almost upon us again. Thirty-two years – longer now than Marc was on this earth. TAG Chairman Kev and I look forward to meeting any of you who can make it to the Tree this coming Wednesday - 16th September. If you visit on the 16th or at any other time, do take a tribute/photo/message/flowers or whatever you'd like to take to leave on the Notice Boards and/or wooden skirt around the Tree so that other fans can enjoy your tribute when they visit. Please don't pin anything on the Tree itself as this harms it!
Visit the site for directions; printable maps and all you'll need to find Marc's Shrine between Queen's Ride and Gipsy Lane, Barnes, LondonFRIDAY 18th SEPTEMBERIf you have visited out site recently you'll know that 2009 is our 10th Anniversary year and that to celebrate that we, together with T.REX the music of Marc & Mickey are holding an T-Rex-tra Special Event at the Legendary 100 Club in Oxford Street, London next Friday 18th September. Doors open at 7:30pm and when the band isn't playing there will be a non-stop Bolanic Disco with Professional Bolan DJ-Extraordinaire 'Shades' who is travelling to London from Glasgow for Marc's anniversary & this event.
BENEFIT EVENTThe event is a benefit for TAG and the band are donating their performance to the event so that TAG can continue to care for Marc's Rock Shrine. So if you are proud that Marc is included, via '
The Bolan Tree' in the
English Tourist Board Guide to sites of 'Rock 'n Roll importance' via their listing of what they call
Marc's Rock Shrine then it makes sense to support the gig and support the band as this benefits Marc via TAG.

Not sure about the use of the name? We understand your concerns, though we ask you not to become biased by those who are against the band because they are better than some others who like to keep the 'tribute' scene for themselves. Of course they are going to whip their 'followers' up into a 'frenzy' against the band and complain that Paul Fenton wasn't with Marc that long ... How long were they with Marc?
Never! Paul was PICKED by Marc after being recommended by Tony Visconti - so he was good enough for Marc.
As for not with Marc long? We know from signed items Marc gave Paul that they were good friends and Paul was a huge support for Marc during Marc's lonley time as a tax exile. The people who slate the band have a vested and indeed financial interest and are therefore biased -
So please think about it and be fair to all sides. That's all we ask. So why not come and see for yourself if they do Marc and his music justice. I know you'll be impressed when you experience First-Hand the Whole Experience of the band who are Totally Unequalled when it comes to playing the Main Man's Music Live. LET'S GET MARC OUT OF THE GLAM ROCK GHETTOMarc didn't want to be caught in the 'Glam Rock Ghetto' - he wanted to be taken seriously as a guitarist of note. Why else did he take lessons from people like Eric Clapton? Surely not to wear a feather boa well into his 50's & 60's.
Listen to Marc's live performances from 1977. I'd recommend the Nantes, France gig recorded in a small club with little audience noise. 1977 was the last time we were able to hear how much Marc had advanced from the limited guitar-ability of the 'Hot Love & Get it On 1971 Days'. Now listen to Get It On for example in 1977 - Far more gutsy. Far more Ballsy and extended with terrific Rock Breaks. That is where Marc was heading and it seems more than likely he would have continued to improve his guitar abilities to strive to be taken as a Serious 'Axeman'.
Graham Oliver - Joint founder of
Saxon does Marc justice on the Guitar, as for the rest of the band ... there is plenty on the TAG site about
Rob Benson's amazing vocal skills, and Paul Fenton's 'power drumming'. The addition of two lady-backing vocalists gives this band a real edge.
So in closing, check the site for full details of the updates and we hope to
see you in London on Friday 18th September 2009. If you miss it, you'll regret it! Laser Love,
Kevin (TAG Chairman) & Fee (TAG Founder & Secretary)
