THE HISTORY OF THE TREE/MARC'S ROCK SHRINE SECTION
I can't believe it. I haven't updated the Main Page since Marc's 30th Anniversary in 2007. I decided to 'catch up' starting in 2009 so that 2008 hasn't been done yet. Below are some of the New Pages added so far, but do check through the entire Lists as there may well be ones you haven't looked at yet :-)

1) MARC'S ROCK SHRINE IN OCTOBER 2009: THE PHOTOS
You'll find the Photo Gallery Here. Kev can be seen doing a repair to one of the steps. He does such 'running maintenance' on a regular basis, but as we never mention it and Kev doesn't like being photographed it seems many people think the site stays 'as is' on its own which is not at all true. In the Spring we have scheduled some major works at the site. This is to replace several of the steps with new railway sleepers as by then the steps will be over ten years old. As you can imagine this will be hard labour intensive work and I hope every Bolan Fan who visits the site realises that although I as a Bolan Fan founded TAG without the work by Kev and our friend Mark Rowe (neither of whom are Bolan Fans and do the work for me!), the site would quickly return to the 'shit-hole' it was described as in 1995. You can read more about the forthcoming work Here.

2) MARC'S ROCK SHRINE IN OCTOBER 2009: THE VIDEOS
As you probably saw on the front page we visited the site last month. You can view Videos Here. All three videos have the option to expand to 'Full Screen' and should stream as long as you don't have a very slow connection.

3) MARC'S 32nd ANNIVERSARY - SEPTEMBER 2009
A Terrific PHOTO GALLERY sent in by John Hunt & Colm. The Final Photo was taken by Colm showing a Mini Dealer in Lower Richond Road. Colm wondered if this was where Gloria bought their Mini. Good question to which I don't have an answer.

OK THAT'S IT FOR NOW
Time has beaten me again. Creating the Photo Galleries and Web Pages while Kev Created the Videos always takes more time that I allow for it! So stay Tuned for the next update by which time we'll have visited the Tree again and hopefully the Photo Gallery will be finished and can be included along with some News Items.

STOP PRESS: TAG EXCLUSIVE - WATCH THE ONE SHOW TOMORROW FRIDAY 13th NOVEMBER
BBC 1 - 7:00PM
We've been 'tipped off' that footage filmed for The One Show at Toyah's home when she and her school chum can be seen flicking through a couple of scrapbooks of Marc Clippings, & other memorabilia as part of a feature on 'MY FIRST SINGLE'. TOYAH TALKS ABOUT THE FIRST SINGLE SHE BOUGHT WHICH WAS RIDE A WHITE SWAN!
The memorabilia seen in this footage is just a little of my Collection which The One Show borrowed. UK residents can catch it for 7 days after tomorrow via the BBC iplayer. The One Show Web Site.
In the unlikely event that Toyah does not feature for technical or other reasons, we'll let you know as soon as we hear when it will be screened.

UPDATES HERE AGAIN!
Yes, some more updates. We hope you enjoy them :-)

HAPPY 'DEATH DAY' STEVE TOOK
Yes today is the Twenty Ninth Anniversary of Steve Took's unfortunate 'appointment' with that Cocktail Cherry.
Nice to read this Tony Visconti Appraisal of Steve Took's Role in Tyrannosaurus Rex which he left on Steve Took's My Space:-
"TONY VISCONTI: Everyone has a different view of history. I missed Steve dearly when he was ousted from Tyrannosaurus Rex. Steve used to stay at my flat in Earls Court. The picture you are using was taken by me during a walk through Holland Park. I considered him to be an equal partner to Marc and I find myself still listening to that period more than the T. Rex period. Steve was incredibly talented."
For more information also visit Steve Took's Domain Personally as Web Mistress of both sites I'm chuffed to bits with Tony's Comments! :-) The image on the left? Inspired by comments made about Tookie by some of his friends and on his song "Peppermint Flickstick".

MOTT THE HOOPLE FAN SAYS MARC'S SHRINE IS "a pretty heartfelt memorial"
Great to find this blog entry with photos and write-up about an American Mott the Hoople fan's visit to Marc's Shrine on what would have been Marc's 62nd Birthday.

PHOTO EXHIBITION
There is a Photo Exhibition opening today entitled "Death Drive" is on from 4 October to 1 November at The Wapping Project, London E1W.

Esquire magazine reports:-
"Car accidents have claimed many a celebrity victim, from James Dean and Marc Bolan to Princess Diana. Photographer Dean Rogers is interested by what is left behind — no, not the messy clear-up — but the way the crash site resonates with our memories of the person who died there, as his new exhibition, opening at The Wapping Project this weekend, reveals."
... and ...
"there's an important twist: rather than shooting from the curb or lay-by, he chose to give a driver's-eye perspective, cunningly turning the viewer from voyeur into victim. All in all they make for interesting and unsettling viewing."

OK THAT'S IT FOR THIS UPDATE
We apologise for the delay in this update. The Hacker certainly caused us many problems. At the moment we are still going through the scripts on all the TAG pages to ensure that there aren't any old scripts which can be used as 'back-door entrances' into the site. If you do find any pages which generate a Virus Alert please Email Us ASAP and let us know the name of the page (you don't need the 'address' simply what is on the page: e.g. Photo Gallery of the tree site 2005 etc etc).
Laser Love to All,
Kevin (TAG Chairman) & Fee (TAG Secretary).

MARC'S ANNIVERSARY & WEEKEND
Just a very quick "Hi" to all the lovely people (of which there were many) we met at Marc's Shrine on the 16th September and also this morning :-) Photos and Videos to Follow. The 100 Club Gig was a Fantastic Success. Here is just one review:-
"Hi Fee
Good to see you at the 100 Club last night - What a Rocking Good Night !
Current band line up were a joy to listen to - Rob still shows his love for Marc, Mickey and the music - his acoustic set was spot on and longer than previous one I have seen / listened to.
Paul , even at 63 still provides a driving force on the drumkit and continues to amaze with his drum solo.
Teenage Dream performed live was amazing, but I feel Graham Oliver saved the best to last - his guitar solo prior to the 20th Century Boy intro was out of this world !
All I will say now is "More London Dates in the not too distant future please"!
Yours T.Rexfully
Bob
"
OK That's it for now. Proper Update ASAP.
If you have photos/videos - please do send them in to be included :-)
Laser Love,
Fee

THAT'S IT FOR NOW SEE YOU ON WEDNESDAY
We hope to see fans old & new at the Tree this Wednesday (16th September) & plan to be there by 11:00 am and many fans tend to visit between around 11:00 am & 3:00 pm though often people are still arriving into the early evening. We might also pop down on other dates between the 16th and 19th too :-)

Useful Site to confirm train times Simply enter your 'from' station' (London Waterloo (WAT)) (not Waterloo East) and your 'to' station (Barnes), enter the date of travel (16th September) and the time. 'Real Time' trains take just 19 minutes or so :-)

And finally the BBC5 day weather forecast which shows that the 16th September is going to be a dry day with sunny periods. Lovely - Thank You Tree Spirit :-)
Photos & video from the site will be uploaded as soon as we have time (though this might not be until after we get home after the 100 Club Gig).

      12th September 2009

Hi Bolanites,
WEDNESDAY 16th SEPTEMBER 2009

Well the anniversary of Marc's death is almost upon us again. Thirty-two years – longer now than Marc was on this earth. TAG Chairman Kev and I look forward to meeting any of you who can make it to the Tree this coming Wednesday - 16th September. If you visit on the 16th or at any other time, do take a tribute/photo/message/flowers or whatever you'd like to take to leave on the Notice Boards and/or wooden skirt around the Tree so that other fans can enjoy your tribute when they visit. Please don't pin anything on the Tree itself as this harms it!
Visit the site for directions; printable maps and all you'll need to find Marc's Shrine between Queen's Ride and Gipsy Lane, Barnes, London

FRIDAY 18th SEPTEMBER
If you have visited out site recently you'll know that 2009 is our 10th Anniversary year and that to celebrate that we, together with T.REX the music of Marc & Mickey are holding an T-Rex-tra Special Event at the Legendary 100 Club in Oxford Street, London next Friday 18th September. Doors open at 7:30pm and when the band isn't playing there will be a non-stop Bolanic Disco with Professional Bolan DJ-Extraordinaire 'Shades' who is travelling to London from Glasgow for Marc's anniversary & this event.

BENEFIT EVENT
The event is a benefit for TAG and the band are donating their performance to the event so that TAG can continue to care for Marc's Rock Shrine. So if you are proud that Marc is included, via 'The Bolan Tree' in the English Tourist Board Guide to sites of 'Rock 'n Roll importance' via their listing of what they call Marc's Rock Shrine then it makes sense to support the gig and support the band as this benefits Marc via TAG.

T.REX the music of Marc & Mickey
Not sure about the use of the name?
We understand your concerns, though we ask you not to become biased by those who are against the band because they are better than some others who like to keep the 'tribute' scene for themselves. Of course they are going to whip their 'followers' up into a 'frenzy' against the band and complain that Paul Fenton wasn't with Marc that long ... How long were they with Marc? Never! Paul was PICKED by Marc after being recommended by Tony Visconti - so he was good enough for Marc.

As for not with Marc long? We know from signed items Marc gave Paul that they were good friends and Paul was a huge support for Marc during Marc's lonley time as a tax exile. The people who slate the band have a vested and indeed financial interest and are therefore biased - So please think about it and be fair to all sides. That's all we ask.

So why not come and see for yourself if they do Marc and his music justice. I know you'll be impressed when you experience First-Hand the Whole Experience of the band who are Totally Unequalled when it comes to playing the Main Man's Music Live.

LET'S GET MARC OUT OF THE GLAM ROCK GHETTO
Marc didn't want to be caught in the 'Glam Rock Ghetto' - he wanted to be taken seriously as a guitarist of note. Why else did he take lessons from people like Eric Clapton? Surely not to wear a feather boa well into his 50's & 60's. Listen to Marc's live performances from 1977. I'd recommend the Nantes, France gig recorded in a small club with little audience noise. 1977 was the last time we were able to hear how much Marc had advanced from the limited guitar-ability of the 'Hot Love & Get it On 1971 Days'. Now listen to Get It On for example in 1977 - Far more gutsy. Far more Ballsy and extended with terrific Rock Breaks. That is where Marc was heading and it seems more than likely he would have continued to improve his guitar abilities to strive to be taken as a Serious 'Axeman'. Graham Oliver - Joint founder of Saxon does Marc justice on the Guitar, as for the rest of the band ... there is plenty on the TAG site about Rob Benson's amazing vocal skills, and Paul Fenton's 'power drumming'. The addition of two lady-backing vocalists gives this band a real edge.

So in closing, check the site for full details of the updates and we hope to see you in London on Friday 18th September 2009. If you miss it, you'll regret it!

Laser Love,

Kevin (TAG Chairman) & Fee (TAG Founder & Secretary)
